A supplier switch, a move, a new metering point. None of it happens unless your data is right first. An error at your end becomes someone else’s problem.
A monopoly means you cannot pick your customers
Every metering point in the area is yours, the awkward ones included. A system that handles the normal case and not the rest solves nothing.
The volume is constant, not a peak
Smart meters produce hourly values for every single metering point, every day, without pause. What works on a test set does not necessarily work on yours.
You cannot test in production
A misfired message lands on a real customer at a real supplier. That makes test data an operations question, not a developer question.
The rules that apply to you
- Every metering point in your area sits in Elhub, and the market processes run as BRS messages with deadlines that are not negotiable.
- A system must be approved by Elhub before it may send messages in production. Approval is obtained in a test environment, against defined scenarios.
- Grid operations are a regulated monopoly under NVE, and your measurements are the basis for settlement across the whole market.

- Elhub
- National hub for metering data and market processes in the Norwegian electricity market.
- AMS
- Advanced Metering and Control System - the digital electricity meter Norwegian households received from 2019, reporting consumption hourly to Elhub.
- Metering point
- The fundamental unit in Elhub - the unique point in the electricity network where energy is measured and settled, identified by an 18-digit GSRN number.
- BRS
- Elhub’s process specifications. Each BRS describes one market process step by step - who sends what, when, and what happens when something fails.
- VEE
- Validation, Estimation, Editing - systematic process to ensure quality of raw metering data from electricity meters.
