Definition
A field service system keeps track of jobs that cannot be done from the office: the installer has to reach a particular site, do a particular job, and the result has to make it back into the register. The system assigns the job to a technician, carries the work order out into the field, and receives status updates and documentation once the work is done. In the Norwegian grid sector, Powercatch, Handyman and SpeedyCraft are among the systems in use. Ownership varies - some grid companies run their own, others meet the system at the contractor they have outsourced the work to. Where someone else owns it, the integration becomes an interface between two organisations, not just between two systems.
