IGM

The individual grid model - one TSO's description of its own area, and the building block that is merged with the others into a common grid model.

IGM (Individual Grid Model) is the data set describing the power systemThe totality of facilities, lines and systems for producing, transmitting and distributing electrical energy. within a single control area: generation, load and grid topology. Every TSOTransmission System Operator - responsible for operation and balance of the transmission grid at national level. is obliged to build its own, and the model is that TSO's contribution to the common grid model. Models are produced for several time horizons - from a year ahead down to the day before and within the operating day - and they are hourly, so each hour of a day has its own model. In the Nordics the models are submitted to the Nordic RCC, which validates them before they are merged. That validationThe first step in VEE - automated checks of metering data against technical and logical limits to detect obviously erroneous values. is not a formality: a model that fails to converge in power-flow calculation, or that does not agree with the neighbouring area's model at the interfaces, cannot simply be folded into the merge. The obligation is grounded in the System Operation Guideline, which among other things requires each TSO to build a year-ahead model for each bidding zone.
