Market roles

The nine roles Elhub divides the market into. The role says what a party does in a message exchange, not who the party is, and approval is granted per role.

ElhubNational hub for metering data and market processes in the Norwegian electricity market. does not identify parties by who they are, but by what they do. The nine market roles are AG (third party), BSL (supplier for grid lossesEnergy lost as heat during electricity transmission - the grid company is responsible for covering and reporting grid losses.), DDE (metered data collector), DDK (balance responsible party), DDM (grid access provider), DDQ (electricity supplierCompany that sells electricity to end users - purchases power in the wholesale market and sells it to consumers.), MDR (metered data responsible), QRY (query role) and SLR (supplier of last resort). The role codes come from the EdielNordic profile of the EDI EDIFACT standard - used for electronic message exchange in the Nordic power market via Elhub. role list and are the same codes that appear in the messages themselves. One company can hold several roles at once - a grid companyCompany that owns and operates electricity grids and is responsible for power supply to end users. is usually DDM, DDE and MDR - and a company can change which roles it holds without becoming a different company. The point that matters most when buying a system: approval is granted PER ROLE, not per company and not per system. A supplier approved in one role is not thereby approved in the other eight, and each role has its own set of message types that must be tested.
