Virtual metering point (VMP)

A metering point for which Elhub receives no metering values, but calculates them from other metering points that do have incoming values.

Definition

Virtual metering points do not exist physically. Elhub sets them up as a calculation over other metering points, and the result is then used as if it were a measured value. The most widespread application is shared production: several metering points on the same property share electricity produced by one or more jointly owned production facilities, and the distribution between them is performed as a virtual calculation in Elhub’s systems.

In practice

For systems reading from Elhub, the point is that a virtual metering point behaves like a metering point but has no meter at the other end. Troubleshooting therefore cannot go to physical equipment, and the value depends on the source metering points and the calculation setup being correct. Shared production means the number of metering points a facility touches can grow without any new meters being installed.
